The Dead Walked

My novella, The Dead Walked, the first in an all new trilogy, is available now at an incredibly low price.

Some said it was viral.
Others claimed it was an act of God.
Either way the result was the same and the dead walked.

September was her favourite time of the year, and late September, when the autumn was just preparing to hand over to winter, when there was still a residue of the late summer warmth in the air, as well as the crisp promise of the iciness to come, had always been, as far as Missy was concerned, the finest chunk of that particular month.
Not for her was the spectacle of high summer, nor the morose beauty of mid winter. Of course they both had their fineries but these paled next to the season when the leaves glittered with reflected sunlight. It was the autumn, with September being the highlight of that season, which she loved – a time when nature put on its finest display as the lush summer growth was magically transformed.
The sky itself seemed to glow at this time of year.
September was a time of promise.
A time of rebirth.
Not this September, though.
This September, Missy would remember as, the time the dead walked.

Introducing Vincent Stark

Vincent Stark is a reclusive writer, who shuns all contact with the outside world. He has not been seen in public since 1979. Although, from time to time, there have been rumours of sightings of the author lurking in the shadows of the cemetery behind his dilapidated mansion house deep in the Rhondda Valley countryside.
It is said that he is suffering from a skin condition which is aggravated by sunlight and is thus forced into his twilight existence. There is much debate over his well known skill with, the Stylophone and his penchant for playing jazz phrases on his own podcast, Scary Motherfucker. Indeed Stark seems to have picked up this skill overnight and there is one urban legend of him visiting the crossroads one evening and selling his soul to the devil in exchange for his ability on the stylophone.

The devil has all the best tunes

This week saw  the publication of a new novel, The Dead Walked and the author, showing the first signs of clawing his way back into the public consciousness now has a Facebook page – please support the ageing author by clicking like on his page, HERE

However for now Vincent Stark remains hidden away, his groceries delivered by a string of crucifix wearing delivery men and his bills paid by automatic withdrawal from the blood bank.

The dead shall walk……

And the necromancer sang…..

That line come from my novel, The Walking Dead which will be released to an unsuspecting world this coming October. It’s a trilogy that depicts both the end and the rebirth of this planet we live upon.

Each volume, the first is released Oct 31st 2011, will, I hope, offer a thrilling experience for the reader. These are lean, mean books with no padding but plenty of substance.

Below is a short extract from the first volume, one of the many we will be presenting here, in the run up to publication.

Enjoy.

September was her favourite time of the year, and late September, when the autumn was just preparing to hand over to winter, when there was still a residue of the late summer warmth in the air, as well as the crisp promise of the iciness to come, had always been, as far as Missy was concerned, the finest chunk of that particular month.

Of course they both had their fineries but these paled next to the season when the leaves glittered with reflected sunlight. It was the autumn, with September being the highlight of that season, which she loved – a time when nature put on its finest display as the lush summer growth was magically transformed as if by a sepia wand spewing gold.

September was a time of promise.

Brain munching bastards

Believe it or not there is a zombie research society and the said society have taken exception to comments made by horror legend, Stephen King. The society founded in 2007 is dedicated to raising the level of zombie scholarship in the Arts and Sciences.  ZRS Members represent diverse backgrounds, interests, and theories, but are unified in their support of the Society’s three foundational principles:

1) A zombie is a biologically definable, animated being occupying a human corpse.

2) The zombie pandemic is coming.  It’s not a matter of if, but a matter of when.

3) Enthusiastic debate about zombies is essential to the survival of the human race.

Below is the story from the blog of  the Zombie Research Society:

King, famously observed that zombies are popular in worry-free times, and vampires are popular in times of hardship.  We don’t know about vampires, but his assessment of zombies is dead wrong.
The modern zombie was born in 1968 with George Romero’s classic, Night of the Living Dead.  At the time the United States was bogged down in a wildly unpopular war in Vietnam, and social unrest was common.  Romero’s Dawn of the Dead came out ten years later, at the beginning of the Reagan-era recession.

Today we live in constant fear of terrorist attacks, environmental disaster, and economic meltdown.  In these uncertain times, zombies have never been more popular.
In fact, since the global crisis of the past several years began the declaration that zombies are the new vampire has been made by Time Magazine (April, 2009), Newsweek (October, 2009), and The Hollywood Reporter (September 2010) to name a few.

Shockers – Zombie Undead

I picked up this DVD for two reasons – firstly it contains a cool quote from George Romero, father of the modern zombie flick, on the cover and secondly it was only £3.

After watching the movie I’m not at all sure why Romero was so eager for this one, but the chances are he is a little disappointed.  That is of course unless the George Romero quoted here is the plumber from Warford. He apparently loves low budget horror flicks.

It’s not that it’s a bad movie because it isn’t and there are some effective sequences. The main problem with the film is the often wooden acting and cliched script. It reminded me in many ways of those cheap horror movies we used to see in the early days of home video.

On the plus side – the camera work, often seeming like a documentary, is very inventive and makes the most of the limited budget. And there are times when the grainy appearance of the film works in its favour. The best thing about the movie though is Ruth King who puts in a great performance as Sarah, it’s just a pity her co-stars weren’t up to it.

The zombie scenes are more of the same/old, same/old though there are some nice visual jokes. Burberry wearing zombie chavs for one thing – now that truly is terrifying.

Not great, not bad…just mediocre.

Rating – seen it all before.
